The only downside is that codes for the supposedly included Digital Copy of this film that comes advertised in this package expired on 2. As a bonus, the disk is codes for Regions A and B meaning that even though its a US-sourced product, it will happily play in Australian bluray players without needing something explicitly multi-region. but this one is undoubtedly among the best of the bunch. I've bought a lot of bluray restorations of classic movies of the the years. The ambitious production hit Paramount's operating budget with a 4 million dollar price tag, only to be topped by its enormous belly flop at the box office, grossing only 2.

It's still funny and highly entertaining. The Court Jester, released in 1956, showed Kaye at the top of his game, backed by a stellar supporting cast that included Angela Lansbury, Basil Rathbone, and Glynis Johns.

Despite its age, the movie has aged well. The cast in front of the camera, and those behind it, were all the movie-making A-Team of their day - meaning that the writing and performances are all superb. The VistaVision (1.85:1) format in which was filmed means that the image perfectly fills a modern 16x9 widescreen tv.Īnd - if the technical presentation wasn't enough - the film, itself, remains as brilliant as it ever was. The end result is that the colourful costumes and sets pretty much leap out of the screen. The colours are gloriously saturated, but properly colour-balanced and with natural-looking flesh tones. It's probably the best 1950s technicolor restoration that I've seen to date.

I'm thoroughly impressed by this Paramount Presents bluray. There are two ways of viewing evolution, through the spectacles of either the Red Queen or the Court Jester.
